The Japanese Red Maple tree, is by far, one of the most popular ornamental plants. This small deciduous tree is a very showy, versatile species. It is used as a single specimen or in borders or groupings. It can be a single stemmed small tree or multi-stemmed shrub. The leaves are reddish-purple in spring and again in the fall. The Japanese Red Maple tree is used to create a unique bonsai tree. It does best in full sun and moist well drained soils.

River Birch Tree

About the River Birch: I find the tree so captivating and unique. It displays a light reddish brown cinnamon bark that peels and flakes to give that beautiful look that the birch family is noted for. It does well in wet soil. It has dark green summer foliage and turns a golden yellow in the fall. It is also best adapted to moist, acid soils, but will survive dry soils. It is truly a beautiful tree in the summer and winter, and it is widely adaptable and heat tolerant. Posted by Picasa

The Ajuga is a useful ground cover with short spike of blue flowers. The foliage is evergreen in most regions and has an attractive bronzy-brown color that quickly forms a low carpet of medium-sized rounded leaves. The flowers appear in late spring on 4" spikes and spreads of 12-18 inches. The plant does best in a shaded area but will adapt to the morning sun, the foliage colors will be more vivid with the morning sun. It prefers moist soil with a good drainage, but it will tolerate moderately dry areas. Ajuga looks great in rock gardens as a border plant and mass plantings.
